Sometimes a cartoon explains an economic problem better than a chart full of numbers. The housing crisis was complicated, but the basic story was not: too many people were pushed into loans they could not really afford, while too many institutions acted as though prices could only move in one direction.
Humor works here because it strips away the official language and gets back to the absurdity of what happened. When the system rewards bad assumptions long enough, the eventual crash starts to look obvious in hindsight. The hard part is learning from it before the next bubble starts to feel normal.
